What We Liked

What We Didn’t Like
- No Australian servers. Hostinger’s nearest data centre is in Singapore. Every request from an Australian visitor travels ~6,000 km round trip, adding 80–150ms of latency compared to hosts with Sydney servers.
- 48-month lock-in. That $1.49/mo price requires a 4-year upfront commitment ($71.52). If you pay monthly or annually, the price is significantly higher.
- Renewal pricing. $1.49/mo becomes $7.99/mo — a 5x increase. At renewal, Hostinger costs more than VentraIP, which has Australian servers.
- Community reputation. Whirlpool forum users have reported past data security issues and poor support experiences. Hostinger has likely improved since then, but the trust deficit remains.

Not every provider made our list. Here are the ones we tested and chose not to recommend — and why.
GoDaddy AU — Aggressive upselling at every step. The checkout process adds extras you didn’t ask for (email marketing, SEO tools, website security) and relies on you not noticing. Pricing is confusing, with different rates depending on your plan length and what you click. Support is scripted and unhelpful for technical issues.
Bluehost AU — Bluehost is owned by Newfold Digital (formerly Endurance International Group / EIG), the same conglomerate that owns Crazy Domains, HostGator, and the now-acquired Digital Pacific. They have no Australian servers — your site will be hosted in the US or routed through Singapore. Despite being “recommended by WordPress.org,” the actual product has declined significantly under Newfold ownership.
Crazy Domains — Also owned by Newfold Digital. Consistently poor reviews on ProductReview.com.au and Whirlpool. Known for difficult cancellation processes, opaque pricing, and support that struggles with technical issues.
