Pricing (AUD/month): VentraIP's dedicated email hosting starts from around A$3.95/month per account. We could not fully verify VentraIP's current email plan line-up at our June 2026 pricing check, so confirm plans and storage tiers on their site before signing up.
Plans are per-account (covering one domain with multiple mailboxes). IMAP, POP, ActiveSync, and webmail are all included. Phone support is available during AEST business hours - rare at this price point.
VentraIP email is the best option if you want: AUD billing, Australian support, and email that's independent of your web hosting (useful if you use a different host for your website). If you also host your website with VentraIP, you can use their cPanel email instead and skip the dedicated email plan.
Google Workspace Business Starter - Best for Team Collaboration
Google Workspace Business Starter is not just email - it's Gmail with your domain, plus Google Meet, Calendar, Drive (30 GB pooled storage), Docs, Sheets, and Slides. For teams already using Google tools personally, the transition is seamless.

Add 10% GST and Business Starter is effectively A$10.89 per user per month. Google is currently running 50% off for the first three months, advertised as applying between 29 September and 29 December 2026, after which the rate returns to A$9.90.
Google Workspace is worth the premium over Zoho if your team actively collaborates on documents - real-time editing, commenting, and the integration between Gmail/Docs/Drive is seamless in a way third-party alternatives can't fully replicate.
Google Workspace is not worth the premium if you only need email and don't use Google Docs/Drive collaboratively. In that case, Zoho Mail Lite at a fraction of the price does the email job equally well.
Microsoft 365 Business Basic - Best for Outlook and Teams Users
Microsoft 365 Business Basic is the entry-level business plan that includes Exchange email (50 GB mailbox), Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive (1 TB). Notably, it does not include the desktop Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - those require Business Standard.

Two things to watch. Microsoft now sells a cheaper Business Basic (no Teams) variant at A$8.10, which is the genuinely cheap entry point if you do not use Teams. And Business Standard and Premium are now listed on the Australian comparison page only in Copilot-bundled form, at A$35.20 and A$47.90 respectively, so if you want plain Business Standard you may need to ask for it rather than find it in the grid.
Microsoft 365 Business Basic makes sense if your team is already in the Microsoft ecosystem (existing Outlook users, Teams for communication, existing SharePoint workflows). It's the natural corporate email infrastructure for businesses that use Windows and Office.
Fastmail - Best Independent Option
Fastmail is the strongest option here if you want a real business mailbox on your own domain without handing your email to Google or Microsoft. It is an independent provider, it sells email rather than a productivity suite wrapped around email, and it prices in Australian dollars natively rather than converting from USD at checkout.

Longer terms drop the rate further: 24 months brings Individual to A$7.13 a month and 36 months to A$7.00. There is a 30-day free trial.
Be clear about what this is not. Fastmail is not the cheapest option on this page and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Zoho undercuts it substantially, and Zoho's free tier costs nothing at all. What Fastmail is, is the cheapest independent mailbox that still undercuts Google Workspace (A$9.90) and Microsoft 365 Business Basic (A$10.50) on a like-for-like single mailbox, while not being funded by advertising or bundled into a suite you did not ask for.
One gap worth knowing before you buy: Fastmail does not state its GST treatment anywhere on its pricing page. The prices are shown in AUD, but whether they include GST is not published, and that matters if you are registered and want to claim the credit. Ask before you commit, and keep the tax invoice.
Fastmail makes sense if you want your own domain, no ads, no data mining, and a mailbox that will still be there in five years. It does not make sense if you need shared documents, video meetings or a team collaboration suite, because it deliberately does not do those things.
Rackspace Email - Avoid in 2026
Rackspace Email was previously one of the best-value business email options at $2.99/mailbox/month. Rackspace has since lifted the price to around US$10/mailbox/month - more than triple the old rate - with little notice, leaving many long-time customers shopping for alternatives.
At $10/mailbox/month USD (approximately A$15.50/mailbox/month), Rackspace Email is now more expensive than Google Workspace Starter while offering less (email only, no Google Workspace collaboration tools). There is no reason to use Rackspace Email for a new setup. Existing customers should evaluate migrating to Zoho Mail Lite, Google Workspace, or Microsoft 365 depending on their requirements.
